Of course, we will treat you promptly if you have acute complaints. However, please call in advance and do not simply come to the practice. As we are an appointment-based practice, i.e. we allocate appointments, you will have to allow for a waiting time, as we give priority to patients with fixed appointments. Exceptions to this are accidents such as knocked out teeth in children or very acute emergencies.
FAQ
The statutory health insurance companies pay for a preventive check-up twice a year, once every six months with a minimum interval of 4 months. Once a year, the simple removal of tartar is also covered by statutory health insurance. However, this does not include polishing the teeth. This is carried out as part of professional teeth cleaning. We will be happy to advise you on this during your check-up.
If you need a dental prosthesis, the statutory health insurance companies will subsidize a slightly higher amount if you provide proof of regular check-ups by dentists, which must be documented in the so-called bonus booklet.
Not all dark discolorations on the teeth are active caries. External discoloration caused by coffee, tea or red wine can also appear as dark spots. These discolorations often occur in niches that are difficult to clean, such as in fissures or at the edges of old fillings. To be on the safe side, make an appointment for a check-up.
We use dentin-adhesive composite fillings in a multi-layer technique as standard - i.e. the high-quality ceramic-reinforced tooth-colored plastic fillings are firmly bonded to the tooth. Those insured by statutory health insurance companies have to pay for this additional cost compared to simple amalgam fillings. We also offer filling materials that are fully covered by statutory health insurance. Here we use cements based on glass ionomer. These are long-term temporary and have a durability of approx. 2-3 years.
If you have been locally anesthetized as part of the filling therapy, it is advisable not to eat until the anesthetic has worn off to avoid uncontrollable injury to the anesthetized soft tissues such as the tongue and cheek.
Health insurance companies are only legally obliged to cover "necessary" services. What is necessary is defined in Section 12 of the German Social Security Code V: "The services must be sufficient, appropriate and economical; they must not exceed what is necessary. Insured persons may not claim benefits that are not necessary or uneconomical, service providers may not provide them and the health insurance funds may not approve them." This also means that, for example, aesthetically high-quality composite restorations or ceramic-veneered crowns in the posterior region exceed the "sufficient level" according to the legislator and are therefore only partially subsidized by the health insurance companies.
As part of a professional dental cleaning, the teeth are cleaned intensively by specially trained dental hygienists so that the biofilm of bacteria responsible for tooth decay and periodontal disease, which constantly adhere to the tooth surface, cannot develop in the first place. You will also receive individual tips on how to optimize your oral hygiene at home. The PZR can be carried out every six months if the risk of tooth decay is normal, or more often if it is increased. For patients with periodontal disease, a periodontal cleaning recall is scheduled at 3-6 monthly intervals after the actual periodontal treatment, during which the gum pockets are regularly checked and treated if necessary. The purpose of periodontal cleaning is to maintain optimum oral hygiene in order to prevent tooth decay and periodontitis.
Every patient has different dental care needs. Therefore, there is also a range of different toothbrushes, different bristle types and the difference between manual and electric toothbrushes. Depending on the individual situation, interdental brushes and dental floss are indispensable. Our dental hygienists will advise you individually and independently of manufacturers!
If you wear dentures anchored to your teeth, it is very important to look after your own teeth in order to preserve them for as long as possible.
Especially if you wear dentures, please visit our practice every six months.
If the temporary restoration that you are wearing until the completion date of your crown or bridge falls out, you should also have it reinserted by a dentist. If you are initially unable to make an appointment or are unable to be in the area, you can also reattach the temporary restoration yourself with a little toothpaste. However, the tooth should not be left untreated for any length of time to prevent fractures or sensitivity.
The first visit to the dentist should take place when all milk teeth have erupted.
We recommend brushing from the first milk tooth. Children have only fully developed their motor skills at around the age of 10, until then we recommend that parents brush their teeth.
Wisdom teeth do not need to be removed if there are no problems to be expected, as they are fully-fledged teeth. They should only be removed if they cannot be kept hygienically clean, if they grow very tilted or crooked or if it is foreseeable that they will not have sufficient space available when they erupt.
In our practice, you will be informed about the necessary behavior before every surgical treatment. In the 2 days following the procedure, it is necessary to refrain from consuming caffeine, nicotine and alcohol to ensure good wound healing. At the same time, physical rest is recommended.
For legal reasons alone, we are not allowed to recommend supplementary insurance. However, the fact is that the market for such insurance is very extensive, so we can only recommend that you critically review and scrutinize the policies on offer. From our experience, however, we can say that you cannot expect any major benefits from so-called "bargains" or cheap policies, some of which cost less than €10. However, higher-quality insurance policies do offer sensible subsidies for dentures, aesthetic fillings and professional teeth cleaning.
