Interview with Dr. Cerman

Dr. Cerman, you work across the entire spectrum of modern dentistry and are also certified in "Aesthetic Dentistry". On which topics of aesthetic dentistry can you advise and treat patients in the practice?

This covers the entire spectrum of aesthetic dentistry, from the color and shape of the teeth to the shape and volume of the gums. The patient's wishes are fulfilled as far as medically possible. The treatment spectrum ranges from minor filling corrections and bite corrections to a complete new smile design, which is intended to be aesthetically pleasing but also functional in the long term. However, clear and open communication with the patient is important here in order to filter out what is important to him/her and to create solutions together in order to adjust expectations according to the possible therapy. As you know, aesthetics are often in the eye of the beholder.

How do you achieve a natural, straight and radiant smile with the methods of modern dentistry?

It is a multifactorial process that starts with the patient's wishes, continues with diagnostics and treatment planning and ends with the selection of materials in close cooperation with our dental laboratories. We use the most modern methods currently available on the market for this purpose. For example, digital X-ray and 3D imaging, a visual preview of the future dental restoration produced in the laboratory, the latest adhesive dental materials and the measurement of temporomandibular joint movement using the Bluefox freecorder. The visualization has a particular advantage for the patient, as it gives him/her a clear idea of the forthcoming result. This is done in collaboration with our laboratories, using wax and mock-ups that can be presented to the patient in advance. The patient has the opportunity to see the future result in advance. Changes can be discussed and then implemented during the actual treatment.

What do you particularly like about your daily work with your patients?

Clearly, the daily human contact with the patients, the diversity of the cases, as every case and every patient is unique. I particularly like it when I can contribute to improving the patient's quality of life. Starting with the elimination of pain and restoration of chewing function through to aesthetics. All of this fulfills me as a dentist and the trust and gratitude I receive from my patients spurs me on to improve every day.

You are now a passionate dentist - how did you choose this career?

Even as a child, I had an immense interest in medicine and practical activities, even when I was playing with a toy doctor's case. This was influenced by our family dentist at the time, who explained every step to me before treatments even as a child. For me, dentistry combines the scientific with the practical. Years later, after completing my classical ballet training, I did an internship in a dental laboratory to find out whether I would enjoy a career in dentistry and whether I had the necessary practical skills. This confirmed my decision.

What forms of anesthesia do you use in your practice?

Normal local anesthesia, oral sedation (sedative medication) and general anesthesia (sleep anesthesia).

zero
What advantages can you offer your patients in this area?

Fast and painless treatment.

zero
How do you proceed with anesthesia for children?

In the case of general anesthesia for children, a detailed preliminary discussion is held with the parents in which all planned treatments are discussed. The preparation for general anesthesia is carried out by our experienced anesthetist in consultation with the parents.

zero
What do parents need to know or pay attention to?

Education is the A-O. It is very important to me to educate the parents about the importance of dental care and nutritional guidance, to point out possible mistakes and to accompany the parents in this regard in order to spare the child further anesthetic treatments in the future.

zero
What are the advantages of immediate implants from the patient's point of view - apart from the short treatment time?

It is a less painful, more time-saving alternative for the patient.

zero
What further information on mechanical root canal treatment would you like to communicate on your website?

Since root canal treatment is known to be a somewhat more complex treatment, machine preparation offers a faster and uncomplicated solution for the patient.

You have dental hygienists (DH) in your practice. What is the difference to prophylaxis assistants (ZMP)? And what exactly is a ZFA/ZMF?
While dental hygienists have attended advanced training courses in the field of professional tooth cleaning, dental hygienists are dental assistants who have completed several years of training in the field of prophylaxis. Thanks to their additional qualifications, they are authorized to treat gum disease and carry out maintenance treatments for periodontal and peri-implant diseases. This means that our patients receive highly qualified care right from the start, from diagnosis through education, motivation and treatment. A ZFA is a dental assistant who has completed their training. A ZMF is a ZFA who has attended further training courses in the course of her career.

What distinguishes your practice from others?
We are a friendly, authentic and motivated team that enjoys working together. We are also said to be down-to-earth. Our main focus is on offering each patient the best individualized treatment. Everyone is different and has different needs. As my colleague always says: "It's all about the cause", and our patients notice this during treatment. As we are also a very large team, spread across three locations, we attach great importance to human interaction at eye level. If someone were to ask me explicitly, my answer would be "Yes, we love and live our work - but feel free to come by and just get to know us." 🙂
