Dr. Med. Dent.

Michael Kratschmayr

Dr. med. dent. Michael Kratschmayr specializes in general dentistry and temporomandibular joint disorders. Many complaints, such as headaches, neck tension, grinding, etc. are caused by the temporomandibular joint. In order to make a diagnosis, various examinations and analyses are required, which Dr. Kratschmayr has been practising for years. These include the functional analysis of temporomandibular joint disorders. You can rely on his experience.

Another approach that Dr. Kratschmayr has been pursuing for 25 years is holistic dentistry. Here, the whole organism is considered, not just the teeth and the interaction between the teeth and the organism. Alternative healing methods (homeopathy) are used where conventional medication and treatments are ineffective. Detailed information on Dr. Kratschmayr's specifications can be found in the "Dentistry Plus" section.

Dr. Kratschmayr is a member of the BDIZ, DGI, IMGEAV, IZAK, ZÄN and DGZMK. Listen to Dr. Kratschmayr live on the radio station "Das Ding" on the subject of "Snacking and our teeth": Click here.

Interview with Dr. Kratschmayr

Dr. Kratschmayr, in addition to the typical range of services offered by a dental practice, you offer many alternative and holistic therapies. How did you arrive at this holistic approach yourself?

The path to alternative, holistic methods resulted from my personal experience and practice during my first years as a dentist. Time and again there were cases that seemed unsolvable. One example is patients with unexplained chronic complaints or unclear pain in the head area. These complaints often involve the teeth or cranio-mandibular dysfunction (CMD). Over the years, I have found approaches that offer solutions for these patients.

Is the holistic approach the future of dentistry? Or is it only interesting for patients with certain problems, e.g. teeth grinding, headaches or sleep disorders?

The holistic approach with analysis of the jaw or osteopathic methods is only of interest to a small group of patients who have specific complaints. It will therefore always remain a sub-area of dentistry and in no way replace the conventional methods of dentistry. One positive aspect, of course, is that chronic complaints are fortunately not the rule.

To get an idea of your approach from the patient's perspective: What differences from conventional dentists do new patients notice when they come to your office?

The atmosphere is relaxed: We have soft, calming music playing in the background and emphasize a quiet pace in the practice. This is also the approach to treatment: it is designed to be sustainable. This means that after the diagnosis, I take time to think about the case. The idea for the case doesn't always come to me within minutes. I plan step by step to ensure the best possible result and a long shelf life. Before any restoration, preparatory measures are taken, e.g. caries removal and - if necessary - gum treatment. This lays the first foundation stone for a successful restoration.
